Emmylou works using water soluble oil paints as she loves the way it dries to a slightly different shade much like nature changes in the light. Painting on large canvases give her freedom and excites her as the overall effect is quite consuming. Creating the drips effect in Emmylou\\\\\\\'s pieces are very important to her as it explains the emotions she feels when creating a beautiful picture, its the contrast between pleasure and pain, tears of sorrow on beauty. Emmylou likes to have ultimate control to create and destroy her work.
Painting outdoor scenes, for her symbolises freedom and limitless. Nature is powerful and that is how she wants her artwork to be viewed; evocative and powerful giving the viewer an emotional response to the work.
