Richard Goold
University:
University For The Creative Arts Farnham
Graduation Year:
2012
Richard is an artist based in Surrey. He studied painting at the University For The Creative Arts Farnham until 2012 and came runner up in the Windsor and Newton painting prize at the Griffin Gallery open in 2015. His work was also featured on BBC South today in 2014 as part of the South Central art prize.

Richards work explores our relationship with digitally manipulated imagery within our culture. Drawing on a wide range of sources, from old masters paintings, film stills and photos he has taken himself, he seeks to become “the filter”. He uses images which hold a sense of nostalgia or the ephemeral. These figures are placed within graphic or decoratively patterned backgrounds as if they were created within a computer program such as photoshop.

Using a technique he has developed within line drawing, Richard processes the images and blends them together to create something new. Although his works look mechanically produced, they are all painstakingly made by hand. His main area of interest is in a fusion between classical and contemporary illusionistic processes of image making, within drawing and painting.
