Posted on November 1, 2013
This November sees artist Agnetha Sjögren take the mantel of artist of the month and her first UK solo show here at Curious Duke Gallery, details below. Before the ensuing madness we ask our Swedish 'Nice' dog creator a few questions.
Name : Agnetha Sjögren
Discipline : Designer,self taught artist
Where do you live : London and Stockholm
Where did you study : Sweden, France and England
Life ambition : To be as happy as possible!
1. Who, or what is your greatest influence on your life and art?
My nice and nephew, and nature it self.
2. Who is your favourite artist at the moment?
Takashi Murakami, Jeff Koons, Andy Warhol, and of course Alberto Giacometti.
3. Describe a typical day in the studio in no more than 5 words.
There is no such thing as a typical day but I guess:
Organised Chaos, Meetings, Designing, Sourcing materials, etc.
4. Spontaneity or planning?
Don't think that I can separate the two. Very few artist of our time have the luxury to just be an artist. You have to wear many hats, the business hat, the organiser, networker, computer expert, designer, tax expert, pr manager and boss over everything.
5. What do you do in the event of a creative block?
Creative block? ;-) I am fortunate maybe but my brain is working high speed all the time so it's more a question of having the time to do everything that I want.
6. Do you have a favourite piece of your own work?
I believe my works improves everytime so it would be fair to say that it is always the current piece I'm working on that becomes my favourite.
7. What is the most challenging aspect of your work?
Having the time… and finding the right glue ;-)
8. Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?
Living and working as an artist in 3 different places -chasing the sun and having a good time with my friends.
9. Please recommend one piece of essential reading.
Only one?! I guess 'The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran' has to be in the top and The Angelic Avengers by Karen Blixen written under the pseudonym Isak Dinesen.
10. If you could time travel to one era or event, when would you choose?
I think that's what I do with the dogs all the time they are my memory bank and I don't feel like chasing other peoples events or happenings. I have travelled most of my life, and spent time all around the world and met the most fantastic people. I think the trick is to enjoy and live when it happens: live as much as possible in the now.
11. Tea or Coffee?
Coffee coffee coffee
12. Who would be your dream dinner guest?
Vivienne Westwood, my grandmother and Grayson Perry.
13. What super power would you have for a day?
I would like to be a magic Modesty Blaise and I would sprinkle non war thoughts into the water.
14. What are you listening to at the moment?
Swedish iranian wonder girl Laleh.
