Buyers Guide

Buying art can often be daunting, as well as exciting, so what do you need to consider?

We now offer FREE delivery to all UK addresses on all artwork bought online!

BUY ART YOU LOVE
You will have an aesthetic that you will lean to, but it will take time to find what you like and what you will want in your artwork, be it screen print, sculpture, small, large or monochrome and rainbow. You will live with your artwork so make sure you love it, there is no need to hurry. Search online, go to exhibitions, degree shows, anywhere and everywhere and read about artists as it may be how and why an artwork is created that unites you. Investing in art is investing in the artist. A good dealer will be more than willing to answer questions and offer knowledge about the artist, they may already have information sheets written about the artist or interviews for you to read. Don't hurry and you will find something that holds your attention.

WHAT ARE YOUR OPTIONS
When you are searching for that special piece, are you looking for an original or limited edition artwork? Depending on your budget, a limited edition piece may be more affordable.

ORIGINAL ART
Original pieces factor in materials and its uniqueness. These will be one of pieces created from the artist hand. The attraction of an original artwork is that you will be the only person in the world that owns that image.

LIMITED EDITION
With limited edition artworks the materials and cost of production are spread out across the number of prints. This in no way takes away from the artwork as a limited edition print will always be unique according to how it is made. Often with limited edition works, there isn't an original work if it has been created digitally, or the original may not be available for sale.

Whilst we are talking about limited editions, make sure your print is numbered with the edition number and how many are in the run, for example 5/25. As for all artworks, they may not be signed in which case there should be a certificate of authenticity. This is very important.

HOW DO I HANG IT?
So how will you hang or show the work in your home? Not all artworks will come framed, or you may want to change the frame. Frames will either have a wire on the back for you to hang from a nail or screw depending on how heavy it is, or their will be a fixing that you will have to match the screw to exactly. If D.I.Y is not your thing, some galleries offer installation, just as we do.

DO I INSURE MY ART WORK?
As I'm sure will all do, do retain the receipt as proof of purchase if you wish to insure the art work at a later date.

Lastly, do not be afraid to ask questions. You need to enjoy the art work so ask as many questions as you need to.
