In our occasional series, Art World Insights, we probe prominent figures in the Arts for advice and they came to find themselves in their jobs. This time, we asked Director of Moniker Projects and Moniker Art Fair Frankie Shea for his experiences as he takes his seat at the Secret Art Prize judging panel. Have you applied yet? Over to Frankie…

Tell us about Moniker Projects?

Moniker Projects is an art based company and founders of the Moniker Art Fair. We work with artists who roots are within urban culture.

What was it that made you consider, and launch, Moniker Art Fair?

I represented artists and had great success. Despite this fact I could not break into the London art fair circuit. So I decided to start my own fair.

6 years later we’re still here …

Describe a typical day in the life of Frankie Shea in no more than 10 words.

Kids, Coffee, train, meetings, emails, emails, meetings, wine o’clock

What is the best and worst thing about what you do?

Best - I choose my own hours, my own projects and rarely are any 2 days the same. I like the people I work with.

Worst - Being a psychiatrist to artists.

Growing up by Herakut

Who, or what is your greatest influence on your life?

God knows. My Nan was cool. Maybe skateboarding. My kids.

Who is your favourite artist or work of art at the moment?

Probably a Herakut painting from Burning Bridges show I put on back in 2007/8.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?

With the love of my life … who I’ve not met yet.

Now, the Arts can seem impenetrable at times, please recommend one piece of essential reading and one piece of advice for anyone looking to get into the Arts.

Be nice, be focused, meet people.

And just for us, if you could time travel to one era or event, when would you choose?

I’d like to be in my early 20’s in the mid 1970’s skating pools daily in California (but with modern day decks)!

Who would be your dream dinner guest?

Oh god, do I really have to go? Just the thought of listening to other peoples ‘amazing’ stories!

No one at all springs to mind.

What super power would you have for a day?

Flying of course!

What are you listening to at the moment?

LBC and the presenter is so f*****g annoying. I’m going to turn it off

right now.
