Curious Duke Gallery visits Random International: Rain Room
Curious Duke Gallery would like to take you to the Barbican's Rain Room installation by artist collective Random International.
Only a five minute walk from our 207 Whitecross Street premises and you'll be in the queue for a Hollywood moment. Although there is a two hour wait, it's just enough time to build anticipation and fret over the brolly situation. As you edge closer you'll be able to peek into the perfect darkness of the curve, but you'll have to wait for admittance to even sniff the rain. Let into the Curve in groups of 5 you'll shuffle around the shadows wondering if you'll suddenly come under fire from an angry cloud. But then you'll see the glittering droplets and the dazed group in front throwing their arms around. I can guarantee this is the point you'll giggle. Set in front of you will be a grid on the floor, and one on the ceiling with a light blurring any reality. You'll hesitantly waddle onto the grid slowly, slowly catchy monkey and watch as the rain falls all around you, but not on you. It's a mythical glee that is tangible. Enjoy, and no peeking.
P.S
That rumour about wearing all black ending in a soggy mess isn't true.
