Buy art for Mothers Day
Posted on February 22, 2013
Daffodils and brighter evenings can mean only one thing- Mothering Sunday. This March 10th brings with it a sniff of Spring and a present fit for a Queen.
As the family Matriarch's day, you must remember your orders and offer up a token of love that is akin to a crown and cute as a button. Now, don't worry I know that Mothers come in a variety of characters, but essentially they want a return on their love. Pick your Mum from the lovely list;
The Mrs Doyle
You've walked through the door, with or without company, and the first thing your Mother asks is "Cup of tea?" I can definitively tell you that your have a Mrs Doyle Mother, so I'll direct you to Mirjana Smith. Alongside the obligatory daffs, Mirjana Smith's quaint assembled teapots will delight your mum with the antique tins and delicate details. More good news, you won't have to drink a gallon of tea- these gems are purely ornamental. We at Curious Duke really have delivered haven't we?
The Adventurer
Is your clan leader always off on a journey, or an adrenaline junky? Hannah Adamaszek provides this charm by the bucket load with prints and original canvases. Pastel Assasin to name but one original carries the calm of an experienced traveller and the tenderness we all recognise in our mother's. If you're more interested in a limited edition print, If only for a night is has all the breezy allure characteristic of Adamaszek's women. Sound like someone you know?
The Dreamer
If your mum is a tad on the dreamy side, and maybe makes plans larger than life, Katherine Tromans has the perfect Mothering Sunday gift. Her Paradise series surrounds you with a treasure trove of babbling water holes and toppling blooms in a pastel haze. Give your dreamer a destination. Perhaps you remember the 'Five Minute's Peace' book from your childhood, in which case definitely consider Sue Young Lee to restore your mothers p & q. WIth languid foliage overlapping in diluted layers, your Mum will surely lapse into comfort.
The Colourful Character
Not intoned with the usual polite insult, but in recognition for the Mum's out there who aren't afraid of a slap of rainbow. Kristin Gaudio Endsley's liberal pools of colour merge and splurge in all directions, with little details ever revealing themselves. Take a dip and introduce your mum to these delights.
The Story Teller
Those scary and terrific tales your Mother would spin to send you off to sleep, were maybe a touch too tall to be true, but David Merta empathises. This illustrator slowly wraps you in a limerick that sits in the face of the watercolour characters of Meg and her friends, just watch out for the wooden peg. Perhaps your bed time stories were a tad more romantic? Kate Knight weaves golden hearts into nests built by birds of prey- remind you of anyone?
Let your mum see herself through your eyes this Mothers Day, March 10th.
