The drawings parallel a world to our own, when it was uncharted and the achievements of nature and mankind were adorned as the gaps of the world where slowly filled in. The proposition of the world of Perpetuia is displayed through the simplicity of the drawn image and the exhibition of the unseen. It exists as a fictional representation of our world into a viewable platform. Attempting to harness the same intrigue and excitement that is held within the likes of William Farquhar’s natural history drawings, The Great Exhibition and Eratosthenes first world map.
There is nothing new but an amalgamation of what has already been discovered and documented. The limitation of the imaginary allows it to be accessible to the individual spectator, dependant on his or her recognition of its content; from the living fossil ginkgo leaf to the decadent buildings of the 1915 World Fair in San Francisco, such intricate details of our own rich and adventurous history is entwined between my fictional creation.
