London Framing with Alan Dean; Buy Art
Curious Duke Gallery, if you haven't already paid us a visit, has moved next door to Taylored Framing of 173 Whitecross Street. And quite frankly it's brilliant, but I don't know a thing about framing. So, to tell us a few helpful facts about framing, we're turning to the super man of framing Alan Dean.
Alan, let's imagine I need a frame, what do I need to consider? How do I compliment an art work?
In my views, a frame can make or break an artwork, it's important to get the frame right or the artwork will never reach its potential beauty, I would never put an artwork into a frame "just because it fits" whereas a lot of people buy cheap frames from the like of Ikea etc and fit their own works into the frame, 90% of the time pieces never fit properly and the end result is not a thing that you would want to look at every day on your wall.
There are thousands of variations on how to frame a piece, I talk with a customer to see if they are trying to match other existing frames or furniture in the property or if they want the framed item to "stand out", my aim is to frame a piece so that you see the artwork first and then your eyes be drawn outwards to the frame, not the other way round, I don't want the frame to be the most obvious thing.
How long does the average frame last?
A frame from my shop should last you a lifetime if treated well, I wouldn't expect a frame to be thrown around and live to tell the tale.
Thank you Alan!
