Name: Blandine Bardeau

Where do you live?: South London, Peckham. My studio’s in Deptford.
Where did you study?: Saint Martins and The Glasgow School of Art
Life ambition: To be a full-time successful artist and to create a family
What can you tell us about your artistic practice?
Well, my practice has transformed so much over the years. I studied fashion and I love making soft sculptures and jewellery pieces, so my paintings and drawings tend to be on the verge of 3 dimensional always… They climb out, these little creatures… I am more comfortable working in the abstract realm, I feel it gives me more freedom, it’s more elusive and exciting. Colour has always been at the centre of all of my practices, in fact I think I primarily paint with colours and textures.
What does the Secret Art Prize mean to you?
A great opportunity and a superb initiative. I liked the brief very much and how it combined street art and gallery art. My work is not exactly street art, but in the way it escapes the frame I think it very much applies to the idea.
It’s great to be part of Curious Duke which I really wanted and it’s a nice surprise to be a runner-up!
