Curious Duke Gallery are proud to introduce Aidan Myers! Elegantly abstract, his paintings appear to move and squirm with colour and expression. You can see Myers' work on show this September, details here.
Discipline: Fine Artist (painter)
Age: 22
Where do you live?: Cardiff, South Wales
Where did you study?: Cardiff School of Art & Design (Cardiff Metropolitan University)
Life ambition: Freelance, self-employed artist.
What can you tell us about your artistic practice?
Painter, approximately been painting fully for 6 years. Generally large scale canvas painting is my primary choice. Interested greatly in how scale affects the ways in which gestures and marks are made by the artist. It’s also greatly interesting in how this causes viewers to react. Engaging the viewer within the compositions and from myself whilst creating the work is an important factor.
What does the Secret Art Prize mean to you?
Exciting opportunity to be able to exhibit in a bustling area of London. Be situated within a contemporary setting or amongst a group of artists that aren’t pretentious or snobbish. Many galleries (particularly in Cardiff ) are not interested in investing time or energy into representing emerging artists due to their lack of experience and immediate ability to sell work.
Having visited Whitecross Street party, I felt that the chances and future networking opportunities were vast, wide and had gave me a lot to look forward to in the future.
I have been looking to work with curators and artists that are like minded and view artists for their individual qualities within their work as opposed to how much experience or knowledge they have.
Choose one word:
Grotesque or beautiful? Beautiful.
Urban or surreal? Surreal.
Planned or spontaneous? Spontaneous.
Monochrome or rainbow? Monochrome.
Thanks Aidan!
